Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Just a quick message from yours truly to say hello and to wish you a blessed summer! I hope it’s a season of rest, recreation, and joyful time with family and friends. I also hope it’s a time for continuing growth in Christian faith, hope, love and service in our lives. I know it’s normal for every parish community to go into “Summer Mode” and for weekend Mass attendance to drop in July and August. My bold hope is that you make participation in weekly Mass a high priority, even if you are on vacation. The Mass as the Catechism of the Catholic Church describes is the “Source and summit of the Christian life.” (CCC 1324-1327) Families with young children or teenagers at home, what better habit can you try to instill in your kids than that of being a regular participant at Sunday Mass? Will Durant once wrote “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit.” Let’s encourage one another to be habitually present at Mass, and to carry the peace and love of Christ we receive there into our daily lives.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the warm welcome I have received as your new pastor here at St. Bridget’s. I have been a part of this wonderful parish community for about seven weeks, and feel quite at home. Special thanks go to our staff for their gracious help in orienting me to the culture and charisms of the parish. Finally, I am grateful for all the ways you support the mission of St. Bridget’s through the generous stewardship of your time, talent, and treasure. Thank you in particular to all who have contributed to the Annual Catholic Appeal. We are inching closer to our goal and to the rebate we hope to use to upgrade our sound system.

St. Bridget of Kildare…pray for us!

Live Jesus in our hearts…forever!
