Dear Friends in Christ,
A blessed autumn season to you all! This is the time of year to celebrate various kinds of harvest festivals, to gather in that which has been growing to sustain our lives and the life of our world. What a fitting background to begin our annual reflections on the call to be good stewards of God’s grace in our lives, which really is everything given us by God to reinvest in the building up of the Kingdom of Heaven.
Our parish is invited to a veritable smorgasbord of gifts to affirm, celebrate, and share this month. This coming week is “Mental Health Awareness Week” an opportunity to reflect on the call to be good stewards of our psychological health. Please check this week’s bulletin and our parish social media sites for various helpful resources to deal with mental health issues like depression, anxiety disorders, addictions or suicidal ideation. These are real problems for many in our community, so please encourage one another to become informed on how to best deal with emotional struggles you or a family member or friend may be dealing with.
October is also “Learning Disabilities Month,” an opportunity to reflect on how we can be good stewards of our children’s educational journey, which for many can be a great challenge. Julie Gunter, ASB parent and Catholic writer, will be speaking at Masses this weekend about the impact of inclusive education on a child’s emotional wellbeing and spiritual growth. Julie will invite interested St. Bridget’s and ASB parents to join a Diverse Learners Support Group that will meet on Thursday October 24th at 7:00pm. (Location to be determined.)
In coming weeks, I will be offering brief reflections on other aspects of being good stewards of God’s gifts, including the decision to share our time and talent in outreach to various ministries that serve needs within our parish and greater community. I will also reflect on what the U.S. Bishops invite us to consider every October which is designated as “Respect Life Month.” This is a critically necessary time for us to affirm the church’s teaching on the sacredness of all life from the moment of conception, until natural death and all points in between. This year’s them for Respect Life Month is “Christ Our Hope in Every Season of Life!” Stay tune for more helpings in this smorgasbord feast of God’s goodness and life in our midst!
St. Bridget of Kildare…pray for us!
Live Jesus in our hearts…forever!
