Preparing Children to Receive Christ in the Eucharist and in the Sacrament of Reconciliation
Children usually make their First Communion in 2nd grade, at the age of 7 or 8. To prepare their hearts to best receive the body and blood of Christ, they first celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as the Sacrament of Penance or Confession). Preparation for these sacraments involves meetings at the church for parents and children, as well as some guided home study. We refer to these classes as “Sacramental Prep.”
This preparation process consists of both family home study and classes at the church. We use the Blessed curriculum, published by Dynamic Catholic, which includes wonderful on-line videos that families will enjoy watching together. These can be accessed at https://dynamiccatholic.com/blessed/program-view/
Children who do NOT attend a Catholic school are asked to also enroll in our "Early Disciples" Faith Formation class that meets on Monday evenings. Click here for more information.
Families are asked to send in a copy of their child’s baptismal certificate if the child was baptized at a church other than St. Bridget. If your child would like to prepare for First Communion but has not been baptized in the Catholic tradition, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to make special arrangements.
