The
Sacred Heart Shelter (SHS) is a non-profit agency of the Archdiocesan Housing Authority of
Catholic Community Services. It
offers safe, temporary housing to homeless single women and families, helping
them secure permanent housing and achieve self-sufficiency. In 1993 St. Bridget Parish chose SHS to be one of its parish charities as part of a new outreach program. Since that time, St. Bridget’s has actively supplemented SHS’s efforts to assist the homeless, providing not only financial support for special needs and projects, but hundreds of volunteer hours. St. Bridget was instrumental in the renovation of the Shelter in the 90’s and continues to aid SHS when a special need arises, such as the purchase of a van or major repair. St. Bridget volunteers provide meals for SHS several times a month and organize welcome baskets for new residents. St. Bridget volunteers also participate in special events, such as the annual Christmas Party, and provide crucial support for one of SHS’s major fundraisers, the Soupline.
