The Orion Center is a day-time drop-in
center for at-risk, runaway and homeless youth that provides case work,
counseling, education, physical and mental health services, recreation
opportunities, and meals. Orion is
a collaborative effort between diverse agencies, including Seattle Schools, the Seattle
Police department, and health care for the homeless.
Since
1983 when Catholic Community Services operated a drop-in place at 2nd
and Virginia, St Bridget has provided one, two or more dinners per month for
street children at this Orion Center.
Later
when the need for more help for these children became apparent that Catholic
Community Services had to relinquish this program to make financial support
available from more widespread sources.
For
these many years, St Bridget parishioners have provided dinners monthly, also
monetary gifts for special needs and specific gifts from our Christmas Giving
Tree for individual children.
