Living
the life of Christ is to live as a servant to others. Thus, to serve as a
Eucharistic Minister is to publicly affirm that one is willing to assume the
responsibility of being a servant to others.
Looking
at the role of Eucharistic Minister in this manner means that personal worries
about whether one is "worthy" to offer communion are really out of
place. This is not about honoring members of the assembly and elevating
them to some quasi-clerical status. It is about offering members of the
assembly the opportunity to step out and express by their bodily presence within
the assembly- their commitment to being what they see Christ to be: the servant
of others. God's commitment to us, revealed in the human person of Jesus,
is imaged anew each time the faithful are willing to take up His life of
service."
