Altar Serving allows young people in our parish the opportunity to be part of the parish liturgy and ministries. They are a visible part of the Mass, and their role is to assist the priest and deacon in administering the celebrations of the Mass. They help by setting things up and putting things away, leading processions, holding the book of the prayers, lighting candles, and assisting at the Lord's table with water and wine. They also assist with Baptisms and, of course, ring the bells. To become an Altar Server, you must be entering the fourth grade or older, and have made your First Communion. There is no upper age limit, and after you are trained you usually serve once a month, sometimes twice, for as long as you want to be a part of this ministry. New Altar Servers receive training so they feel confident and prepared. Fall training sessions for new servers will be on Mondays, October 5th, 12th, and 19th, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. The Altar Server Workshop for current altar servers will be Tuesday, September 29th, 2009, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. If you are interested in becoming an altar server, contact Maureen Anderson (206) 985-0861, or memanderson@comcast.net
