Altar Serving allows young people in our church the opportunity to be a part of the parish ministry. They are a visible part of the Mass and their role is to assist the priest and deacon in administering the celebrations of the Mass. They help by setting things up and putting things away, leading processions, holding the book of the prayers, lighting candles, and assisting at the Lord’s table with water and with wine. They also assist with Baptisms and of course, ring the bells.  To become an Altar Server you must be entering fourth grade or older, and have made your First Communion. There is no upper age limit, and after you are trained you usually serve once a month (or sometimes twice!) for as long as you want to be a part of this ministry. Altar Servers receive training so they feel confident and prepared.  Training occurs in the fall and spring, and consists of 4 or 5 evening meetings usually held on Tuesday. The sessions generally last an hour. New servers are shown where to find items that may be needed during the Mass (in the sacristy) and they practice their part in the Mass.
